“Why don’t you just move?”
It’s a question I hear a lot. I live in an unsafe apartment building with an abusive landlord.
Sometimes the question is spoken aloud, but more often, it’s there in peoples’ wanting-to-be-helpful-but-also-kind-of-judgmental silences.

Johnson County is getting ready to open its Housing Choice Voucher Program, which assists people who need rent assistance.
When the waitlist opens this year, the process will be a little different.
Last year, the county accepted more than 1,400 applicants but only saw a success rate of around 11%.

Kansas Legal Services Executive Director, Matt Keenan, said Kansas Legal Services was “the only one” in direct negotiations with KDR to ensure residents get compensation with “no strings attached.”
