Getting Legal Assistance
Individuals seeking legal assistance must first apply. Our field offices can't answer any questions or give legal advice until they have an application on file.
This information and checklist were prepared as a handout for clients who are thinking about a will and looking at alternatives.

Kansas Legal Services (KLS) was born in 1964 during the War on Poverty, and became a statewide organization in 1977.
KLS provides legal services to alleviate low income Kansans’ poverty burdens. KLS has eleven legal services field offices and two mediation offices located across Kansas.
In 2019, the Board of Directors examined KLS’ mission statement and reaffirmed it with this simple statement:
Every four or five years, Kansas Legal Services asks Kansans to fill out a questionnaire telling us what they need -- legal needs and other needs. This is the year!
We published the results of our needs survey from 2020 and now we are going to find out how things have, or have not changed.

In Kansas, the Department for Children and Family Services administers the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Overview
Kansas Legal Services, a statewide non-profit corporation, is devoted to helping low income Kansans meet their basic needs through the provision of important legal and mediation services.
You may be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or more commonly known as foodstamps.
