Legal Assistance at the Franklin County Self Help Center
Kansas Legal Services is pleased to announce that we will be providing legal assistance to low-income Kansans at the Franklin County Self Help Center once a month.
An attorney will be present at the **Franklin County District Courthouse, 301 S Main, Ottawa, KS,** on the third Tuesday of every month to process applications, give legal advice, and provide extended services.
ATTENTION - SERVICE LIMITATION:
We provide assistance to low-income Kansans with **civil legal issues only**. We cannot provide assistance in **criminal matters**.
Service Availability
An attorney will be at the help center from **9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month.**
Services Provided
- → Civil Matters: We assist low-income Kansans with civil legal issues.
- → Scope of Service: Advice and document drafting are provided on a limited scope basis, based on an assessment of your individual situation.
- → Priority: Priority will be given to **family law cases**, but you may still apply if you have questions about other civil legal issues.
How to Apply
Applying When the KLS Attorney is Present:
You may fill out an application and leave it with the attorney for processing. Applications and appointments are handled on a **first come, first served basis**.
Applying When the KLS Attorney is NOT Present:
- → Physical applications are available on the resource wall in the courthouse.
- → Give the completed application to the clerks, who will ensure the attorney receives it.
- → A KLS employee will contact you at a later date to schedule an appointment or gather more information.
