MANAGING ATTORNEY - MANHATTAN & SENECA
Kansas Legal Services – Manhattan seeks a dedicated, Kansas-licensed attorney to serve as Managing Attorney for our Manhattan and Seneca offices. This leadership position offers the opportunity to guide a dynamic team while advancing KLS’s mission of providing high-quality legal services to low-income individuals and families.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to public interest law, along with demonstrated leadership ability, excellent interpersonal skills, and a proven capacity for team building and staff development.
Required Qualifications:
- Active license to practice law in the state of Kansas
- Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
- Strong interpersonal, team-building, and leadership skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A demonstrated commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Manhattan office, including supervision of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing team environment
- Ensure compliance with organizational budgets, grants, and funding requirements
- Maintain sound fiscal management and fulfill reporting obligations for current funding sources
- Carry and manage a personal caseload consistent with leadership responsibilities
- Assign and coordinate work across the office to ensure efficient service delivery
- Supervise casework and conduct regular performance and file reviews for all case-handling staff
- Mentor and support the professional development of attorneys and paralegals
- Provide leadership that promotes accountability, communication, and continuous improvement
- Represent KLS in the community by providing legal education through outreach events and partnerships

Kansas Legal Services – Kansas City seeks a Kansas-licensed staff attorney to practice general poverty law representing low-income Kansans. Casework will focus on solving civil, legal problems that will increase the social and economic stability of the individual. The primary focus practice area is debt collection, with an emphasis on medical debts. Experience with debt collection cases is preferred. The office serves Wyandotte and surrounding counties.
