Kansas Department of Children and Families launched the Mobile Crisis Helpline for additional support for eligible Kansans in need during a crisis.
Services are available for ALL Kansans 20 years old or younger, including anyone in foster care or formerly in foster care, though this service is not limited to children and youth in foster care.

Kansas teens aging out of the state’s foster care system are now able to choose a primary legal guardian whom they trust to represent them best, giving them another option when transitioning to independent living.
Since it began in early 2020, the Family First Prevention program in Kansas recognized the need for more intensive attention on prevention of placing children in foster care – specifically, keeping families together before a petition is filed to remove a child from the family. This puts a focus on family well-being, to give parents and caregivers support and access to needed resources to prevent or relieve a crisis in the family before it escalates.
This client-focused handout contains information and tips about how to handle a call from a collector or someone collecting a debt on another's behalf.
Here are two helpful videos on dealing with debt collection, and how to talk with a debt collector.
Are you eligible for food stamps, child care subsidy, health insurance from the government?
To apply for SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits, TANF (cash assistance), Child Care Subsidy, find the application here. You do not need to be eligible for or want all these benefits. One application is considered for all these programs.
As you may know, Kansas Legal Services is part of the national legal aid movement that was born in the War on Poverty in the early 1960s. KLS grew out of the movement that believed everyone deserved equal access to justice, without regard to their ability to pay for services.
The National Legal Aid and Defender Association (NLADA) has a film about the history of civil legal aid in the United States on their website.
Your credit score is a tool businesses use to measure your creditworthiness - how likely it is that you will repay a loan. Equifax, Experian and Transunion each compile a report of your credit history to determine your credit score. Occassionally, there will be errors in your credit history that will adversely effect your credit score and your ability to borrow money.
The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act is a federal law that requires collection agencies to stop contacting you if you send them a letter stating that you wish to stop contact. Complete the interview in the link below to create this letter.
