Kansas Elder Hotline - Free Legal Advice for Seniors

    black man with phone

Did you know Kansas residents age 60 or older might have free legal guidance available to them?

The Elder Hotline is a program of Kansas Legal Services, where private attorneys volunteer their time to field calls.

If you'd like to see if this program is available to you, please call 316-267-3975, 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

You will be connected to an operator who will complete an application for possible help or guidance.

If the Elder Hotline ends up being available to you, please keep in mind that it is a volunteer legal advice hotline, and the private attorneys will not be drafting pleadings or providing representation.

Also please keep in mind, no attorney practices in all areas of law, so you may find it necessary to seek help elsewhere after speaking with an Elder Hotline volunteer.

The Kansas Bar Association provides a service called Lawyer Referral. You can apply online to get a referral to a lawyer that will suit your needs.

And finally, attorneys in all stages of their practice, in all areas of law, are encouraged to volunteer with the Elder Hotline.

All that is required is to block off four hours in a morning or afternoon, about once a month when you are available to be in the office doing other work.

During this time, you may receive two to four phone calls which generally  take approximately 20-30 minutes each.

If you wish to volunteer, please contact Joy Springfield - springfieldj@klsinc.org

So, if you are over 60 and have a legal question, call the Elder Hotline today at 316-267-3975.
